A, B, C, D, E and F;再扫一眼,还是不知道这句话到底在说什么。
For industry to take off, there needs to be the technology and power to drive factories, large urban populations to provide cheap labour, easy transport to move goods around, an affluent middle-class willing to buy mass-produced objects, a market-driven economy and a political system that allows this to happen.
Conditions required for industrialization。
- the technology and power to drive factories — 技术与动力(工厂怎么运转)
- large urban populations to provide cheap labour — 城市劳动力(人从哪里来)
- easy transport to move goods around — 运输(货怎么流动)
- an affluent middle-class willing to buy mass-produced objects — 消费市场(东西卖给谁)
- a political system that allows this to happen — 允许这一切发生的政治制度
第一项是 "the technology and power to drive factories",只五个词;最后一项是 "a political system that allows this to happen",带了一个定语从句。
A, B, C, D, E and F
A and B
The antiseptic properties of tannin, the active ingredient in tea, and of hops in beer – plus the fact that both are made with boiled water – allowed urban communities to flourish at close quarters without succumbing to water-borne diseases such as dysentery.
The antiseptic properties ... allowed urban communities to flourish ... without succumbing to ...。中间的破折号 "plus the fact that both are made with boiled water" 是一个补充性并列——它不是和 tannin 并列,而是被提到与“茶和啤酒的抗菌特性”同一层级,作为第二个原因。
题干 剑 10 Test2 Passage 1 Q9 问的是 "Tea and beer both helped to prevent dysentery in Britain.",答案是 TRUE。
- 先抽出主干:antiseptic properties ... allowed ... without ... dysentery。
- 再看并列信号 "and of hops in beer" 确认茶和啤酒都被提及;破折号里的 "both are made with boiled water" 进一步绑定了二者的共同作用。
题干的 "both" 就藏在原文的 and ... and ... plus the fact that both 这一连串并列标记里。
Macfarlane notes that even though 17th-century Japan had large cities, high literacy rates, even a futures market, it had turned its back on the essence of any work-based revolution by giving up labour-saving devices such as animals, afraid that they would put people out of work.
even though 从句里塞了三个并列项:large cities, high literacy rates, even a futures market。 Industrialisation and the fear of unemployment
Q7 的主句是 "it had turned its back on ... afraid that they would put people out of work"——怕失业,才是整段想讲的。
A, B, C, D, E and F
像 "The antiseptic properties ... allowed ... communities to flourish" 这种因果主干一旦抓到,并列项只影响判断题里 "both" 这种限定词的是否成立。
破折号、plus、not only ... but also、as well as 都可能在不经意间追加并列信息。剑 10 Test2 Passage 1 Q9 的 "both" 覆盖范围就是靠 and ... and ... plus the fact that both 这一串标记来锁定的。
